Our Story

Hi my name is Carmela and I am delighted you decided to drop by!! This Crochet Shop and Crate Crochet is the realisation and fruition of a passion and a long held dream! I have knitted since I was a teenager and was only introduced to crocheting in 2011 yet found it to be a perfect way to de-stress and relax from the hustle and bustle of every day life.

By 2016, already an established wedding couturier and business owner, I decided it was time for Australia to have their own crochet subscription box service supporting the Australian yarn industry and similar small businesses! I had no idea how many people craved a monthly box of yarny loveliness and now work on Crate Crochet full time.

My vision for Crate Crochet, is to grow a vibrant community of crochet crafters who love this beautiful and compelling craft as much as I do, as well as to encourage and enhance both beginning and established crocheters alike, discover the latest in products, Australian and international yarns, local and global designers.

Our main aim is to primarily support the few woollen mills left in Australia as well as provide an outlet for new, up and coming and accomplished designers and artisans who, we feel, our subscribers would just love to be introduced to.

Whether you are a complete beginner, dabbled for a while or are an experienced crocheter, our boxes are sure to please bringing you a gift to yourself.

After much hard work I am so happy to say I have achieved that goal and now look for new ways in which to expand this little family business as far as the adventure will allow!!
